My first time meeting Sarah and my very first fiddle lesson were on Skype during the pandemic. I was curious how it would all go but seeing so many things, even dancing, go online made me know there was a way. Now I’ve been taking regular lessons with Sarah this way for 8 months and have no intention of stopping! Sarah is masterful with the technology and has teaching this way down to a science. She makes it very user friendly. I have so much respect for her knowledge, skill, creativity, humor and endless positive encouragement. I really can’t imagine much that would be different in person. I assumed online lessons would be a poor and frustrating substitute for reality. Having tried them, I’ve been blown away by how productive our online lessons have been. Sarah demonstrates her extensive experience with remote teaching and seamlessly tailored my experience to the digital medium. I’ve even found some unexpected benefits to the online format, where it is easier to share reference materials and get quick notes that I can reference throughout the week. I am really loving my online fiddle lessons with Sarah! I started in September of 2020. I am a beginner, having never held a bow before in my life! Her approach is so enjoyable and non-threatening. She is a fountain of musical knowledge. It is amazing how much she can guide me using the video venue. She can identify many details of my bowing and fingering and can make helpful suggestions. Her recordings of tunes played at slow and full speed have been fun to practice with. Being able to take online lessons has been a real gift during the pandemic. In addition, I live about two hours away, so the video option has been a big time saver.
